Why it was worth waiting for Apple TV (with Video!)

I don´t want to find each and every piece developed by Apple absolutely great and gorgous and I’m not that blind not to see that all and everything Apple does make you more enjoy their products more because it adds more functionality and connects the products (in this case my iMac, the iPod and Apple TV) you already have. To be honest – I haven’t tried any other video streaming module – I’m in love with the Apple TV. Amazon first listed the estimated shipping time to 3-4 weeks but obviously Apple could deliver faster and therefore I got my Apple TV yesterday. The best is – it just works.

Apple TV installation

First I was surprised HOW small the little box is – it fits on to my hand easily. Ok, I unpacked, got rid of all the packaging material and wanted to plugin – I was a little mad when I saw that there was one cable missing, the HDMI cable which connects the box with the TV. Another 20€ and a visit to the local electronic store later I started Apple TV. To make it short – the installation offered no hassle, it went absolutely smooth, the menu led through the needed information, I entered my keyword for my rooter and BAM I had the box connected to the internet and the whole world of YouTube.

Because my office is under the roof while our TV is downstairs in the living room it cost me some running – up and down – to get it connected with my iTunes library, in the end it was just a setting you find in iTunes under Advanced/Turn on Home Sharing – and you are done!

Even my husband who is really not very interested whether in Mac computers nor in such a technology was really impressed about the offered features.

What does Apple TV offer?

First of all – and which is the most interesting feature for me – it connects to my iTunes library. This means all music, podcasts, movies and, TV shows I´ve stored there can be accessed. I can even watch all my pictures because it also connects with my iPhoto. So as I have shown before [easyazon-link asin=”B001FA1NK0″ locale=”us”]here[/easyazon-link] with RipIt I can rip my DVDs, put them on my computer and watch them on my TV – without worrying about scratches on the DVDs, without exchanging the DVDs and without burning a copy for my private use to protect the originals. But it gives you more – you can access webradio and any kind of genre and listen to music, you can rent a movie at the iTunes store and you can watch YouTube videos – any.

As mentioned – my office is on the 2nd floor while the TV set is downstairs in the living room – I had a little concern that both were too far away to communicate well. But they aren’t. No quality issues, just watching!

Here are some pictures for you so you can see the interface:

What you get delivered:

  • as mentioned – NO HDMI cable – I’d buy it on [easyazon-link asin=”B00870ZLJ0″ locale=”us”]Amazon
  • [/easyazon-link] – really cheap there

And just because I wanted to give you a deeper look at it – I’ve recorded a short video.
